The Radicubs have started preparing for the new season!
The Radicubs’ official season has started! We have been working diligently to brainstorm ideas for this year's challenge, CRESCENDO℠ presented by Haas. Our subteams have been hard at work, preparing for the CRESCENDO℠ season. This week, our mechanical team designed different intake ideas for the Note, along with designs for climbing the chain. Programming worked on using PathPlanner to create different Autonomous ideas, and businesses applied for grants and worked on awards.
Kickoff:
Immediately after watching the CRESCENDO℠ livestream, students formed into groups to present different chapters of the game manual to ensure everyone understood the game and its rules. Following this, students began brainstorming their different ideas for the challenge and gaining feedback from the team. Later in the day, we held a successful fundraiser at Chipotle, where students and alumni joined us to support our team!
Mechanical:
This week, our members worked on understanding this year's challenge and brainstorming ideas for our robot. We started by listing some of the objectives we wanted to accomplish this year, and had discussions referencing our past ideas, other robot designs, and what we wanted to improve from past years. From these discussions, multiple designs were suggested for this CRESCENDO℠ challenge. Our members analyzed each design, jotting down the pros and cons for each design, and discussing the logistics for field strategies. After a few days of brainstorming, we voted on the designs and began CADing our designs. We even simulated one of our robot ideas on the CAD software. Overall, the Mechanical subteam had an active start to the season!
Business:
Business this week worked on applying to grants for funding for the team. Along with this, business worked on creating the business binder and started drafting the FIRST Impact essay. In addition to this, business increased posting on social media to update more about our team! Furthermore, business attended an outreach event hosted by Frisco Ignite. Frisco Ignite hosts STEAM workshops for K-8 students in the local DFW area and we were able to take part as the engineering branch of STEAM, showcasing our robot, allowing students to drive the robot, and introducing engineering concepts.
Programming:
This week in programming, programmers inspected the Path Planner libraries and learned how to use Path Planner. They created paths to help create autonomous code while brainstorming different autonomous ideas. They set us their libraries and started swerve and command code, preparing them for the rest of the season.
We are so excited to see what the rest of the season holds for us, if you want to keep up with our most recent updates, follow us on instagram and tiktok @theradicubs
